But in fact plenty of delicious foods are in season at this time of year, and our chef Dane Watkins is making good use of many of them.

Restaurants in Fowey and around the country are making use of these fantastic ingredients and ours is no different, with Dane taking advantage of the season to produce several great dishes.

Currently in season and freely available in Cornwall is plenty of game and also an array of seafood.

Dane is currently drawing up our latest new menu, and in doing so he's able to choose from a huge selection of local produce. Will our new menu have cod, langoustines, lobster, monkish, mussels, scallops or skate on it as a fish course? All are possibilities.

There could equally be mains containing duck, goose, grouse, guinea fowl, hare, mallard, partridge or venison and there are also plenty of seasonal vegetables to accompany them.

Beetroot, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celeriac, celery, chicory, horseradish, Jerusalem artichoke, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, parsnips, potatoes, shallots, swede, turnips and wild mushrooms are all in season at this time of year and available locally, while Dane also has the option of importing in season black and white truffles to add a touch of elegance to any dish.

When it comes to dessert Dane doesn't have quite such a broad selection of produce to choose from, but local orchards can help him cook up an apple crumble or tart, or poached pears.  There's also the option of importing a number of citrus fruits passion fruit, pineapple and pomegranate.
