Walking the Cornish coast is good for your health, says National Trust report
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
Cornwall is well known for its beautiful and rugged coastline, but did you know walking along it is good for your health, and can help you sleep longer?
A report published by the National Trust found that taking a leisurely stroll along the coast can result in walkers spending, on average, 47 minutes longer in the land of nod!
The research was conducted as part of the Great British Walk campaign run by the National Trust, which hopes to encourage more people to explore the British coast, as well as looking at how doing so impacts the wellbeing of people.
Of the people surveyed, 83 per cent said they felt calmer after their walk, 82 per cent had increased happiness levels and 62 per cent said coastal walking helped them to escape the stress they experience on a day-to-day basis.
More than 40 per cent of people from the South West said that they experienced a better night's sleep after exploring the coast, with 13 per cent saying that just thinking about the sea helped them to sleep at night.
Many of the people surveyed stated that they associated their coastal walks with memories from their childhood, and the anticipation of going on holiday.
