The celebrities taking up walking
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
Walking is good for the body, mind and soul - something we know only too well.
We're lucky enough to be based in a beautiful location as one of the boutique hotels in Cornwall, where walking is a simple pleasure anyone can enjoy.
The Cormorant is set on the wooded banks of the scenic and picturesque Fowey River, which means our guests are able to take walks through beautiful surroundings on every day of their stay with us.
A 45 minute stroll along the bank of the river takes our guests into Fowey itself - a walk many of our guests make.
That walk may see them pass one of the many celebrities who have helped make walking even more popular than ever before.
That celebrity is Dawn French, who lives in Fowey and who has been outspoken about the benefits of walking in recent months. Those benefits have included a very visible weightloss, with the Vicar of Dibley star having lost four stones in recent months.
She told a magazine recently: "I've done loads more walking and loads less eating"
"Every morning I walk up the hill next my house in Fowey and it's been brilliant.
"I used to really struggle to make it up, but now I'll climb it twice if I'm in the mood. The only thing is, my elderly do doesn't know what to make of this new regime - I think he'd rather only walk half way up."
Other celebrities to have espoused the virtues of walking have included Sandra Bullock, Helen Hunt and, most famously, Clare Balding.
She has talked extensively about how walking helped her de-stress after being the face of the 2012 Olympics. She's also written a book about walking and presents a weekly BBC radio show about rambling.
