fantastic attractions near our hotel in Golant, Cornwall this summer

Summer is well and truly underway, so when staying at our hotel in Golant, Cornwall this August, why not check out the great attractions that are close by? You can enjoy everything from boat rides, horse riding, coastal walks and much more!

Craft workshops

For any rainy days (and hopefully there won't be any on your holiday!) try one of the pottery and art studios in Fowey that offer workshops. You have the chance to try painting, pottery, sculpture and more, and also have the chance to make a souvenir to take home.

Sailing and boat hire

Fowey Harbour and River are home to hundreds of boats during the summer, especially during the Regatta. You can hire sailing boats or canoes to take along the river, join a sea or river cruise where you see the fishermen at work and maybe spot some sea life. There is also a ferry trip between Fowey and Mevagissey, 35 minutes of a great boat ride, where you are guaranteed to see amazing sea life like dolphins. With so much to choose from, you can spend a whole day out on a boat if you want!

Horse and pony riding

If you want to explore the countryside around Golant, particularly the stunning Bodmin Moor, you can try out horse riding and give your feet a rest. There are sessions for all ages and skill levels, and horse riding is a great way to see the countryside and also learn about horses and the benefits of riding. You might love it so much you pick it up back home!

Bird and animals

In addition to the sea life you can see along the river and out to sea, there are some fantastic animal and bird sanctuaries to visit. Fowey Aquarium has a collection of fish and sea life found in the local waters around Fowey and along the south coast of Cornwall. For some more unusual animals, head to Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary at Par where you will find some amazing birds, meerkats, wallabies and more.

Gardens and parks

Cornwall is home to many amazing gardens, and there are some beautiful ones just a short drive from our hotel in Golant. You can explore the mysteries of the Lost Gardens of Heligan in the sub-tropical jungle, discover the amazing exotic plants at The Eden Project, wander the acres of woodland park at Lanhydrock House and Garden, find over 6000 colourful, rare and unusual plants at Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens or take a stroll through the grounds of Boconnoc, the largest park in Cornwall.

A summer holiday near the coast is not complete without a trip to the beach. There are many lovely beaches and coves walking or driving distance to our hotel in Golant, Cornwall. There are the dunes at Par Sands in St Austell, the ever-popular Readymoney Cove, the white sands of Lantic Bay, the sheltered harbour beach Polkerris which has water sport equipment for hire or Polridmouth Cove, which is best to visit at low tide. Remember your sun screen when you visit the beach.

If you are looking for something active but relaxing to do, make the most of the brilliant selection of golf courses that are located around St Austell, close to our hotel. They range in difficulty but each one has spectacular views.

With so much to do, there is enough for a few trips to our hotel in Golant!
