Winter is the best time to visit Cornwall for couples; there is beauty and magic to the white, frosty fields, and the cold temperatures just invite the idea of cosying up by a fire with a hot chocolate or something stronger. As the summer visitors have gone, they have left behind empty beaches, deserted cliff paths, quiet cafes and quaint old pubs to while away an evening in.

Couple enjoying winter in Cornwall

If you would like to discover the delights Cornwall has to offer in winter when staying at hotels in Fowey area, book a weekend break at The Cormorant Hotel. We are close to several fantastic attractions, a short walk to the Coastal Path and have a charming restaurant serving locally sourced dishes. Read on to find what romantic activities can occupy your mini getaway.

Wrap Up For A Walk

Even in winter, the mild Cornish weather makes for pleasant walking temperatures. Wrap up with hat, scarf and coat, get your wellies on and walk the Cornish coastline. You are likely to have cliff top paths, beaches and wild moors to yourself - save a few birds and animals. This gives you the chance to enjoy your partner's company completely and enjoy the beauty of the landscape with no interruptions from other tourists. Near our hotel, one of the best walks is along the coast to Lantic Bay. In the summer, the beach is a haven for sunbathers, but in the winter months, it is quiet and serene.

Ice Skate at Eden

The annual ice rink at the Eden Project provides the ultimate romantic activity - and a lot of laughter! Open until the 18th February 2018, the ice rink is part of the winter festival at the Project, which is also worth checking out. The sessions are suitable for skaters of all ability, and prices are £7 per adult, along with the Eden admission ticket, and skating lessons are also available if you want to really test yourself!

Watch Stormy Waves

The dramatic Cornish coastline sees its fair share of storms in the blustery winter months, and it is thrilling to see the thundering sea crash relentlessly on the rocks, from a suitable safe distance, of course! Cosying up to storm watch puts us in touch with primordial impulses to seek shelter and comfort - that has to be quite romantic!

Find Fairytales in Woods

St Nectan's Glen near Tintagel on the north coast of Cornwall has ingredients for love and romance with its outstanding natural beauty. It might just be the best-kept secret in Cornwall, as the ancient woodland takes you through ivy-clad trees and along the banks of the River Trevillet. Legends and fairy tales surround the woods, and you may spot fairies or piskies on your walk to the waterfalls of the Glen.

Explore Quiet Fishing Villages

Winter is the best time to explore the picturesque fishing villages dotted along the Cornish coast. You can relax, check out the sales, and wander freely in the narrow streets without the crowds. Many villages are untouched by high street stores and chains, so you can spend time browsing the antique shops, craft shops, art galleries and quirky museums. There are also lots of cute cafes and pasty shops for when you need to refuel and warm up. One village to visit near Fowey is Charlestown, a Georgian time capsule and recognisable from hit TV show Poldark.
