Red Arrows Return to Fowey Royal Regatta
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
In true regatta style, there will be plenty of races to watch. Yachts will race to and from Falmouth on the first two days of the event. There will also be a Regatta course held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in St Austell Bay for anyone interested. Whilst Friday will be the big race with yachts competing for the prestigious Tribute Trophy!
What's even more exciting is that this year's regatta is set to be better than previous years, as Fowey rejoice at the confirmation that the Red Arrows will once again be gracing the skies with their spectacular display. After a two-year break from performing at the Fowey Royal Regatta, the Royal Air Force team will be back to show the thousands of visitors and locals why they are masters of the sky!
It is no surprise that the organisers of the event were overjoyed on the receipt of the offer from the Harbour Commissioners to bring back the renowned show to Fowey. A representative for the Fowey Harbour Commissioners reported: "For almost 30 years the flying display by the RAF Red Arrows display team has been a highlight of the Fowey Royal Regatta."
"Thousands of people flock to Fowey to watch the amazing display, it brings together all the people of our disparate community to watch and creates childhood memories to treasure."
Unfortunately, concerns over safety regulations brought the show to a halt and had a huge impact on the success of the Regatta in the years that followed. The organisers have worked hard to bring back the beloved show, and have succeeded following the implementation of new safety procedures.
Visitors to Fowey can expect to see a new sequence from the team on the day, that complies with safety regulations. This will be their second show in the county in a week period, with a performance set on the 9th August in Falmouth. If you want to see the show for yourself, be sure to be in Fowey on Thursday 17th August at 6 pm.
Recommended spots for the best viewpoints for the display are from Polruan and its coastal path; whilst in Fowey, you can watch the grand show from Readymoney, Alldays Field, Coombe, the coastal path that goes to Polridmouth or from the St. Catherine's Castle. Any visitors to the show should be aware that there is limited road access to many areas, and there will be traffic management in place.
