BBC set of Poldark production at Charleston, Cornwall

The BBC production Poldark has been a huge hit, attracting 10 million viewers for the final episode last year. Based on the series of novels by Winston Graham it takes place in Cornwall, and many of the locations used during filming are close to The Cormorant Hotel. If you fancy a traditional Cornish holiday and want to check out the hotspots seen in the show, luxury rooms at The Cormorant are available.

If you haven't started watching it, here are some spoiler free reasons to get you interested:

    • A great story – The series follows Ross Poldark who has returned to his beloved Cornwall in 1783 after three years in the army. On his return he finds his father has died, his sweetheart engaged to another man and his family inheritance in ruins. Poldark starts fresh with a new business and new love to rebuild his life.

    • Cast – A good choice to portray leading man Ross Poldark is Aidan Turner; the attractive actor has previously starred in Being Human and The Hobbit films, and has been praised for his performance as Poldark, a brooding man returning from the American War of Independence. The supporting cast is also just as interesting, including some powerful women like Heida Reed as Poldark's first love Elizabeth and Eleanor Tomlinson as romantic lead Demelza.

    • The scenery – Cornwall already has stunning scenery, and Poldark makes it more so. The locations used create a stunning backdrop for the BBC drama, even the rain adds something to the emotional scenes.

    • A second series – After the immense popularity of the first series, the second was announced immediately and has already been filmed, soon to return to our screens. Plus, with the cliff-hanger ending of the last episode, you will be wanting to know more.
