A new event in Fowey is hoping to become a regular event after it launches later this month, and will start with a rather unusual gift from neighbouring Polruan.

Fowey Big Gig & BBQ Weekend Poster - The Cormorant Hotel

Taking place just a short distance from our hotel in Fowey, The Fowey Big Gig and BBQ weekend gets underway on the 19th June, until the 21st, and as the name suggests, features live music and great food, alongside an appearance from TV chef James Strawbridge.

The weekend is going to start in an usual manner, with a gift of fire from neighbouring Polruan! The fire is going to cross from Polruan to Fowey via the ferry, where it will be given to Mr Strawbridge, who will use it to light the BBQ.

The musical entertainment will be taking place on the Quay, where the line-up includes BackBeat SoundSystem, Lazybirds, Lost in Space, and Carly & the Alternative, amongst many others. For any budding singer/song-writers, there is also an open mic competition, with the grand prize being some recording time at the Sawmills Studios, along with a website designed for the winner.

There are also a range of activities for everyone taking place to appeal to any and every one, and of course, the centrepiece BBQ, which will be carefully looked after by the Fowey fire officers. Alongside of this, a smoke-off competition will be taking place, under the watchful eye of Mr Strawbridge.

The Fowey Big Gig and BBQ is replacing the regular Mussel Festival that used to take place on the same weekend, and is a free to attend event for visitors to Fowey. If you would like to know more about the goings on, check out the event on the Fowey website here.
