Fowey students help out local charities with Christmas Calendar
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
A group of Year 9 students have decided to help out a selection of local charities by creating and marketing the calendar as part of a school project. The group have come up with designs for each month which aim to represent life around hotels in Fowey Cornwall at that time of year.
The calendars also come ready filled in with reminders of Fowey's community events throughout the year.
The work hasn't all been done by the students though, with the public being asked to help out. The students have nominated four charities to benefit from what they are calling Project 9, and would like members of the public to vote for which should be the main recipient of proceeds from the sales.
The four charities in question are the South West Autism Network (SWAN), Children's Hospice South West, Cornwall Air Ambulance and Army of Angels.
Teacher Sam Smith told the Cornishman newspaper: "We thought it would be a really good way for the community to be involved. Since they will hopefully be the ones buying the calendar, we wanted them to get a say in which charity benefits."
The result of the students' hard work is now on sale, with more information online at www.foweyriveracademy.org.uk
People can also vote for their favourite of the charities shortlisted by the pupils via the website. The charities are: South West Autism Network (SWAN), Children's Hospice South West, Cornwall Air Ambulance and Army of Angels.
