Fowey Festival just over a week away!
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
Today, the Festival continues to include an essence of du Maurier, but also includes many more aspects from both the literary and musical world.
This year's Festival will open with the du Maurier Lecture and Luncheon, which is to be hosted by Andrew Graham, son of Poldark author Winston Graham OBE. This lecture is then followed by an hour-long panel discussion with the Poldark TV show's scriptwriter and executive producer. This will take place at St. Fimbarrass Church at 4pm.
Continuing the du Maurier theme, there will be a full day consisting of events associated with the author. This will include an expert panel discussion regarding her books, which is to be chaired by Professor Helen Taylor. There will also be an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records by reading from du Maurier books for 24 hours!
A world-class line of authors, musicians and speakers will be in attendance, including author and humanitarian Terry Waite CBE, historian Dr Ian Mortimer, author Penny Junor and award-winning novelist Linda Grant. Joining this already fantastic line-up includes Rowan Coleman, Ben Kane, Patrick Gale and Judy Finnegan in conversation with Richard Madeley. There is also a panel discussion with the senior scriptwriters and cast members of The Archers, who will be debating the developments of the plot.
Musical elements of the Festival come in the form of traditional folk singers The Farrell Family, Hands on Harps, Gypfunk, and the return of world-renowned jazz singer Tina May, who will be accompanied by the Craig Milverton Trio. There will also be a number of local musical talent showcasing local choirs in the form of a Musical Evening.
This is just a snippet of the great events that will be taking place throughout the week. For a full breakdown of what is happening where, and on what date, take a look at the Fowey Festival website, found here.
