Foodies are flocking to Cornwall more than before
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
Cornwall has been named as the top food destination in the UK, and the third best place for food in Europe. This news will hopefully bring even more foodies to the South West, and you can sample some of the best food the county has at our restaurant in Fowey.
A new survey by travel company Expedia revealed Cornwall as one of the top food destinations in the world, as it reached number three on their 'Europe on a Plate' survey. It found that 23% of Britons would stay in the area for the food alone, and was placed behind Puglia in Italy (34%) and Madrid, Spain (25%).
So why is it the number one spot for UK food tourism?
The chief executive of Cornwall's tourism board Malcom Bell said it was no surprise: "British cuisine has been on the rise for 30 years and Cornwall's reputation has a far higher trajectory - you've only got to watch a food programme like Saturday Kitchen to hear Cornwall mentioned.
"What I like is the reputation we have here. Yes, we have fast food, we have pasties - but it's nice to have recognition for fine dining."
We think Cornwall is definitely the place for fine dining and gourmet food, with all the pasties' and Cornish cream teas you can imagine. It is becoming a popular place for celebrity chefs to set up shop, but we have the best food to try when staying at our hotel.
Our restaurant in Fowey is a great place to try seasonal foods, sourced locally from Cornish farmers, butchers and fishermen. All year round we have the best for our customers to eat and summer is the best time to sample wild garlic that grows around Fowey and wild strawberries from our garden.
