Dolphins Spotted Golant Harbour | Cornwall Wildlife Sea Coast River | Cormorant hotel Fowey Restaurant The Cormorant Hotel's rosette winning restaurant has had a visit from some unexpected guests - a pod of dolphins.

While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, as the dolphins didn't actually manage to make it all the way out of the water and up the hill to the Cormorant's doors.

But they did pay a visit to Golant this weekend, where they surprised a group of kayakers.

The dolphins surfaced alongside a group of kayakers on an expedition up the River Fowey with Encounter Cornwall, a local guided kayaking company.

The group were delighted to see the beautiful creatures in the estuary and Karen Wells-West, who runs Encounter with her partner David Johns, said it was an amazing sight.

"It's unusual to see so many dolphins and to see them so far up river," she said. "I've never seen so many together before and it was very special."Dolphins Spotted Golant Harbour | Cornwall Wildlife Sea Coast River | Cormorant hotel Fowey Restaurant

Karen also said the dolphins hadn't seemed bothered by the kayakers.

"They were just playing around the boats," she said, "like they didn't have a care in the world."

With an abundance of wildlife spotted off the south Cornwall coast this summer there's a good chance you might see dolphins, basking sharks or giant barrel jellyfish on your trip to the county, so why not do some wildlife watching from the Cormorant Hotel's restaurant terrace when you're looking for restaurants in Fowey Cornwall to dine at?
