Cream teas are a staple part of Cornish culture and a delicious treat for everyone who has one. In fact, a holiday in Cornwall doesn't quite seem complete without a cream tea piled high with jam and Cornish clotted cream - in that order of course!

Cornish cream tea being eaten at restaurants in Fowey

Food is a huge draw for people who holiday in the south west of England, from award-winning restaurants in Fowey such as The Cormorant to traditional pasties in every town and village. There are loads of places to see out for foodies, but if you are seeking the ultimate Cornish cream tea, we have put together a list of the best ones that are close to our hotel.

Martin's Dairy, East Looe

Martin's Dairy in East Looe has been a Cornwall establishment from the early 1900s! The dairy originally produced its own ice cream, clotted cream and milk but transformed into a local bakery in the 1980s. In 1998, the Butters family bought the business and expanded to make it one of the leading bakeries in Cornwall. Their fruit and plain scones are perfect for cream teams, and the other bakery products are something you won't want to miss out on either! Open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5pm, Sunday 10.30am to 4pm.

Bean and Scone Café, Polperro

The quaint Bean and Scone Café in Polperro can be found across the estuary from Fowey. They have been serving up traditional cream teas, savoury cream teas, cakes and other treats to very satisfied customers since the café opened in 2005. You can enjoy a bit of a twist on the traditional cream tea too, with a selection of fruit scones to choose from. Call ahead on 07870 682226 for information about opening times.

Coast Path Café, Gorran Haven

Set in the picturesque fishing village of Gorran Haven, two miles south of Mevagissey, on the coastal path, the Coast Path Café boasts amazing sea views with seating indoors and out, making it the perfect place to stop at when strolling on the South West Coast Path. Along with yummy cream teas, the café serves homemade cakes, teacakes, filled rolls and soups. The café is open Thursday to Saturdays 10.30am to 4pm.

The Fowey Hotel, Fowey

The Fowey Hotel offers a delightful cream tea which comes with a pot of tea, two scones, local strawberry preserver and Cornish clotted cream at £7.50 per person. Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Café, Lostwithiel
