A survey by the Post Office has revealed that two-thirds of British people plan to take 'staycation' breaks this year, with Cornwall ranking at the top of the holiday wish list.

Cornwall the number 1 choice for British holidaymakers - stay at Cormorant Hotel in Fowey

Tourism experts have credited the heightened interest in Cornwall to the 'Poldark effect', with the popular TV show luring visitors to the area with its scenes of stunning beaches and untouched countryside. On the back of the show's success, themed tours, steam trains and coach trips have been running, showing fans of the show some of the picturesque scenes featured throughout the programme.

Almost half of the voters (48%) said that they wish to head to the South West of England, with Cornwall now as popular with Scotland and the 'star attraction' of the region, gaining 17% of the vote. It beat out rivals such as the Isle of Wight, the Lake District and Yorkshire.

It follows the news of a similar trend announced last week following a survey by Travelodge, who found that two-thirds of Britons are planning to swap foreign travel for home shores, and also discovered a major increase in people planning to take shorter holidays over longer ones.

With the Cormorant Hotel in Fowey offering an excellent place to stay in the heart of Cornwall, it may be the perfect place to spend your holiday here in the UK!
