Cormorant waiter's penchant for paddling!
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
That's because he's a member of Fowey River Canoe Club and gets to look at the banks of the beautiful Fowey Estuary from the water several times every week.
Waiter Connor Peters has worked at the Cormorant for more than a month now, fitting in his canoeing around shifts in in the dining room of one of the best restaurants in Fowey (or perhaps he's fitting in work around his canoeing!).
18-year-old Connor has proved himself a dab hand with a drinks order or a tray laden with starters, but his real talent becomes apparent only when he gets a paddle in his hand.
He's been canoeing since the age of 12, trains six or seven times a week on the Fowey River and has even represented Great Britain.
"I've raced locally and nationally," he said, "and my favourite event is probably the Devizes to Westminster - it's a 125 mile addle and you're doing it with international canoeists."
Connor has won that race's junior class twice but despite his penchant for paddling outside of Cornwall Connor appreciates being on home water.
"I'm so lucky to paddle in Golant and Fowey," he said. "There's such great scenery and wildlife here and it's very peaceful."
The waters of the Fowey River certainly are peaceful and definitely offer great views, and that's no secret - which is why Fowey River Canoe Club's annual home regatta is a well-attended event.
The regatta took place this weekend just gone and saw its best ever turn out.
"It's great that we get so many people coming down and that we get to show what a lovely place this is to paddle," said Connor.
Here at The Cormorant we completely agree with Connor, because Golant and Fowey really are wonderful places to paddle, as well as wonderful places to visit for a walk, short break, or even just dinner!
