Beautiful Frosty Fowey
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
These images have all been captured in similar conditions around the Fowey River and show just what a wonderful place the Fowey area is to visit, at any time of the year.
While it's wonderful in summer because of the amazing beaches and busy harbour, the area is also fantastic to visit at other times. In autumn the rich red and oranges of the trees contrast beautifully with green fields and blue waters to make lovely backdrops while in spring the banks of the river are alive with yellow and white blooms and flora of many other colours.
But the time of year most overlooked as a good time to visit hotels in Fowey is winter. It shouldn't be though!
The estuary and river look fantastic in winter, while the depths of winter are also a fantastic time to spot wildlife in the area. Many different kinds of bird are in their element at this time of year, with geese landing on the waters of the river to rest up and pheasants scuttling around the fields. Winter is also a great time to spot seals in the river, as they head up river looking for warmer water and food.
And of course, with less foliage about it's also easier to spot woodland creatures like squirrels as they go about their business.
Besides being able to see wildlife, visiting between December and the end of February gives visitors opportunities to see spectacular scenery stripped back to their rawest beauty, as shown in these pictures.
