2.5 million people opting for staycations in 2016
Written by The Cormorant Hotel
Staycations are on a steep rise in the UK, with 2.5 million British holidaymakers opting to stay within the UK for their summer breaks. Cornwall is proving to be one of the most popular destinations, just like the previous year.
Around 12% of holidaymakers will be planning to take a trip in Cornwall this year, beating London to the most popular spot, with 9% planning a trip to the capital at some point over the summer months.
UK holidaymakers are choosing to stay at home due to the rise in cost of holidays abroad, and there are also more people from overseas looking to travel to the UK for holidays because of the drop in the pound, with some coming from as far as China.
Though British holiday makers have often gone for the seaside locations within our own borders, there looks to be a continued rise in the staycation for this summer and into 2017 as well, as many people can visit more places in Britain, have a fun-filled break, and at a much cheaper cost to them.
If you are looking to spend the summer still soaking up the sun however, Cornwall is the place to go. With miles of coastline, and hundreds of white sandy beaches, your sunbathing needs will definitely be met here. The south coast of Cornwall is great for walks, wildlife and more, and our luxury Fowey accommodation, on the bank of the River Fowey is in a prime location for all the things you will want to do on your holiday.
