Mini heatwave coming to Cornwall!

The South West looks set to enjoy temperatures in and around the 30C mark next week, according to a report by the Met Office. Some areas are being predicted as reaching as high as 35C, putting sunspots such as Hawaii and California to shame!

Ex-lifeboat rally to be held in Fowey

A number of lifeboats that have been retired from service and changed ownership into private hands for them to be restored to their former beauty will be on show in Fowey next month. The free event takes place on Saturday 4th July, and will see former RNLI boats from all across the South West travelling to Fowey for the annual ex-lifeboat rally.

Cornwall tops the holiday wish list of staycation destinations

A survey by the Post Office has revealed that two-thirds of British people plan to take 'staycation' breaks this year, with Cornwall ranking at the top of the holiday wish list.

Cornish cider maker uses traditional methods to create sparkles

Fowey Valley Cider are using traditional techniques when it comes to creating their new, sparkling cider, which is already creating waves on the Cornish drinks scene. The cider has already been winning awards after only trading for less than a year, and has most recently picked up a silver medal at the Royal Bath and West Show. The cider is created in Golant, just a short distance from our hotel in Fowey.

Researchers have found ancient trade link between Ireland and Cornwall

Researchers from the University of Southampton have found evidence of a previously unknown ancient trading route for gold between Ireland and Cornwall. The study is suggesting that the two nations were trading gold as long ago as the early Bronze Age, which is around 2500BC.

Entire beach near Fowey for sale for less than a London flat

Have you ever dreamt of owning your very own beach? Well, that very opportunity has now arisen, with a beach near Fowey coming onto the market, for less than it costs to buy a flat in London! The current owners of Polkerris beach have put it on the market for a cool £250,000, as they plan to focus on other ventures.

Gift of fire from Polruan to start Big BBQ Weekend

A new event in Fowey is hoping to become a regular event after it launches later this month, and will start with a rather unusual gift from neighbouring Polruan. Taking place just a short distance from our hotel in Fowey, The Fowey Big Gig and BBQ weekend gets underway on the 19th June, until the 21st, and as the name suggests, features live music and great food, alongside an appearance from TV chef James Strawbridge.
