Famous Art Deco Lostwithiel filling station to get facelift
27th January 2015
A famous and much loved petrol station with an authentic 1920s Art Deco facade could be set for a spruce up if new plans for the building are approved. The Lostwithiel landmark has stood in the same place for eight decades without changing - other than the odd coat of paint here and there. But it could soon get a major overhaul and become a fantastic new café for visitors to boutique hotels Fowey to visit.
Looking after your boat
23rd January 2015
There was good news here in Fowey this week when it was announced the Harbour Office plans to invest £150,000 in a new dry storage facility for boat owners. The news means people who moor their boats in the town will now be able to store them more easily over the winter. It also means people who visit the town in the summer on a yacht or boat and stay in hotels near Fowey Cornwall will be able to put their boats out of the water should they need repairs or maintenance work carrying out.

Cornwall's main tourist marketing organisation has been nominated for a national award for its fantastic use of film! We've shown readers of our blog a number of Visit Cornwall's videos in the past, including fantastic aerial footage of Fowey shot from the skies above our Fowey accommodation. Now the brilliance of these videos has been recognised by the judges of the Travel Marketing Awards 2015. The organisation has been nominated in the awards' Best Use of Film category, mainly because of its #LoveCornwall series of films.
Beautiful Frosty Fowey
19th January 2015
We've woken up to stunning scenes in Cornwall this morning, after a visit from Jack Frost overnight. These images have all been captured in similar conditions around the Fowey River and show just what a wonderful place the Fowey area is to visit, at any time of the year. While it's wonderful in summer because of the amazing beaches and busy harbour, the area is also fantastic to visit at other times. In autumn the rich red and oranges of the trees contrast beautifully with green fields and blue waters to make lovely backdrops while in spring the banks of the river are alive with yellow and white blooms and flora of many other colours.

The class, called Clay Days - Pottery for beginners, offers complete novices the chance to get hands on with some clay and try making their own pottery.
Pop up shop gets permanent new home in Fowey
16th January 2015
A pop up shop, which has proved hugely popular for selling reclaimed maritime lights which have been upcycled into stylish lamps and lights for inside the home, has found a permanent home in Fowey. Any Old Lights is run by Mike Redmond, Sinead Hanks and Pat Fitzpatrick and was operating from a restaurant which had closed for a month during the run up to Christmas. The pop up store provided a physical selling point for the company, which also sells its wares online.
Visit Cornwall shows off Fowey
15th January 2015
A fantastic video put together by Visit Cornwall is showing off Fowey in spectacular style on Youtube. The Cornish tourist board made 16 videos like this, each showing off part of the beautiful county. This one concentrates on providing aerial views of Fowey, and the area of outstanding natural beauty its set within. It doesn't quite manage to include the Cormorant Hotel but it does include several shots of the River Fowey, which our hotel sits on the banks of.

The hugely popular Fowey Festival of Words and Music is set to return to the town for yet another year. The festival, organised by the Daphne du Maurier Society, has set dates for the 2015 edition of the festival - which is news we're delighted to hear. The festival attracts thousands of visitors to stay in boutique hotels Cornwall every year and is a firm fixture on the town's calendar of events. While we always knew it would be taking place again this year the cementing of its dates are welcome news.
What's in season in January?
8th January 2015
To many people January isn't a month that's synonymous with good food - more one where they'll eat comfort food - warming stews and soups. But in fact plenty of delicious foods are in season at this time of year, and our chef Dane Watkins is making good use of many of them. Restaurants in Fowey and around the country are making use of these fantastic ingredients and ours is no different, with Dane taking advantage of the season to produce several great dishes.
