Cornwall tops poll for favourite TV filming location

We may be slightly biased, but Cornwall is a beautiful place to visit, and it would seem that that the general public agree with us, after Poldark was voted as the best TV location of 2015! The Cornish scenery in Poldark was so well loved, it beat the exotic filming locations of Game of Thrones and Death in Paradise. Fellow Cornwall-based television series Doc Martin finished in third place, making it a very good year for Kernow.

No white Christmas for Cornwall this year

For those of you who were dreaming of a white Christmas, we have some bad news... It seems as if it will just be a dream this year, according to forecasters at the Met Office. In fact, it is said to be one of the warmest Decembers in nearly 70 years! Temperatures will be around seven degrees higher than expected for this time of the year.

Those of you with a keen eye will be able to spot Father Christmas flying over the skies of Cornwall this week, as he travels around the world delivering presents to all of the good boys and girls! The bright light will be visible over Cornwall in the early evening of Christmas Eve, but only for a short time, so eagle-eye viewers have to be quick!

There's an abundance of Jedi in Cornwall!

As Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits the big screen, people right across the world are flocking in their thousands to watch it, with the population of Cornwall probably more excited than most. This is due to the fact that Cornwall has the fifth largest number of "Jedi" in the country!

"Mythical" motorcycle collection unearthed in Cornwall

A collection of extremely rare motorcycles has been discovered in Cornwall, after being stored in barns for decades. According to auctioneers Bonhams, the Brough Superiors had been stored in barns for over 50 years, and are the last known collection of unrestored Broughs in the world.

Cornish oysters given EU protected status

Following in the footsteps of Stilton cheese and Cornish clotted cream, oysters gathered from the river Fal have been awarded European Union protection status. This means that Fal Oyster Ltd have been cleared to claim PDO (protected designation of origin) status. The status covers food that is "produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using recognised know-how". Essentially, this means that certain produce can only be identified as coming from a certain place if they actually originate there.

Could Dylan, the Stones & Adele play Eden Sessions 2016?

The Eden Session gigs at the Eden Project are always hugely popular and the first sessionist of 2016 has been announced as Lionel Richie - but who could be joining him on the bill? Lionel Richie will be playing at the gardens near to hotels in Fowey in June next year, on consecutive nights. The Dancing On The Ceiling star was originally due to play just one night, on June 14, but due to huge demand for tickets the 64-year-old has announced he'll now be performing on June 15 as well.

Fowey Christmas market a huge success

Fowey's Christmas Market Festival was a huge success this weekend, with people flocking to the town to take part. The town was buzzing with excitement from Friday to Sunday with people turning out in huge number son Friday for the Christmas parade and returning in their droves over the weekend to visit the two market sites, where visitors were able to indulge in food, drink and Christmas gift buying.

Fowey students help out local charities with Christmas Calendar

Students at Fowey River Academy have designed, produced and are now selling their own charity calendar in time for Christmas. A group of Year 9 students have decided to help out a selection of local charities by creating and marketing the calendar as part of a school project. The group have come up with designs for each month which aim to represent life around hotels in Fowey Cornwall at that time of year.

Fowey's town crier presented with the freedom of the town accolade

Fowey's long-standing town crier who is now set to retire has been honoured for his generous service to the port spanning nearly forty years. Michael Penprase has been bestowed the Freedom of Fowey joining an exclusive few who have also been granted the title of Freeman by the town council and former borough council before him.
