Cormorant Hotel looking over the Fowey river, Cornwall

Alastair Sawday's Review

"The road up is steep, but the reward is a breathtaking view of the River Fowey flowing through a wooded landscape. Boats tug on their moorings and birds glide lazily over the water; it is a very English paradise and as peaceful as can be.

The Cormorant is very much a hotel - large windows and all those mod cons in the bedrooms - but it is run with massive family devotion and is superbly comfortable. There is even a great log fire. The heated pool has the best views and you can walk deep into the countryside from the door. Those views fill every room."
