| Alistair Sawdays Bristish Hotels & Inns, Edition 11, 2009-2010. A supreme position on the side of a wooded hill with the magical Fowey River curling past below. Oyster catchers swoop low across the water, sheep bleat in the fields, sail boats tug on their moorings. The hotel is one room deep and evey window looks the right way, but a recent renovation has added small balconies to most of the bedrooms, so doze in the sun and listen to the sounds of the river. As for the hotel, it couldn't have fallen into better hands. Mary rescued it from neglect, poured in love and money, and now it shines: new windows, new bathrooms , new swimming pool, new everything. A terrace sweeps along the front, a finger of lawn runs below, and inside, the river follows wherever you go. You get fresh flowers in the bar, an open fire in the sitting room, wooden floors in a smartly dressed dining room. Super bedrooms come without clutter: light colours, trim carpets, walls of glass, crisp white linen. One claw-foot bath from which you can gaze down on the water. Swim in the pool, tan on its terrace, dine on fabulous Cornish food. Boat trips can be arranged. | The Times Knowledge - 10 Top Waterside Dining.
